She's so beautiful

Apologies for taking so long to post on my blog. Last time I posted I was in Kuwait and I haven't been in Kuwait in over a week. Therefore, I am long overdue for a post. It's not entirely my fault, though. I didn't have computer access while I was at Fort Carson and I spent a lot of my time at home the first few days hanging out with my family and sleeping. I know, no excuses.

So, Kuwait was hot. It wasn't too bad, though. Maybe because I knew I was on my way home. I'm sure that had a big factor in it. There was only 100 people on our flight back to the states (most flights have 300 people on them) so we had plenty of room. The flight was quite smooth most of the time and it wasn't too boring. We flew from Kuwait to Germany to Iceland to Rockford, Illinois and then on to Colorado Springs. So, I am up to eight countries I have visited. I was only in Iceland for an hour, but we were there long enough to almost get a soldier arrested for crossing a customs area.

Fort Carson wasn't too bad except for the fact that it felt like we were in a prison. This was enhanced by the fact that our barracks were 15 miles away from the main post and it was actually built by prisoners. Strange, huh? So the creepiness of that fact and the fact that we were surrounded by a chain link fence with razor wire on top didn't make things any better. It went pretty smooth at Fort Carson. Our demobilization was pretty quick. When we started it felt like it was going to be a huge cluster, but it turned out to be pretty easy.

I made day three of out processing easier by starting a rumor. Day three usually is a long process for most people; however, I started a rumor telling everyone that the people who finished first had to go mow the lawn at the barracks. That went over great because I practically jumped to the front of the line. I found it humorous. Everyone I skipped wasn't too happy.

My five days at Colorado were cold and boring, but that's the Army. Our guys got into plenty of fights with the active duty guys, but go figure, huh? The National Guard doesn't get along with the active duty too well. Especially our friends at Fort Carson. The Oklahoma guard has some history there.

After a quick flight into Oklahoma last Sunday, I was finally reunited with my family after 15 months of deployment. It was such a nice feeling to see my family and know that I didn't have to count down the days or anything until I had to leave again. It's quite a nice feeling. After a day with my family talking and eating, I finally got to live in my house again. I was lonely in my bed all alone without my wife and I woke up alone. I'm used to sleeping alone, but I miss her so much. Soon I will be reunited for good with my wife, though.

The next day I spent all with my mom driving around town taking care of things that needed to be done: car insurance, my contact lenses, new clothes and such. That was much fun spending the day with my mom. Tuesday I lounged around and didn't do much at all. I just enjoyed being free in Oklahoma. Wednesday I went to Durant to do some paperwork and then I went and saw my old buddies at the Cav troop.

Yesterday, dad and I began our cross-country adventure. We left at 2 pm and drove for 10 hours. We made it to Cookeville, Tennessee and spent the night. This morning we woke up and drove the rest of the way to Columbia, South Carolina. After getting lost in East Tennessee, winding our way through the Great Smoky Mountains, and developing several promising business plans, we wound up driving through downtown Columbia. I don't know how in the world we wound up doing this on our way to Fort Jackson. We got super lost, that's all I can say. Actually, we weren't lost. Men don't get lost.

I just got back from visiting with my beautiful wife. I got to hug her and touch her and see her and I even got to kiss her. It felt just the way I remembered it. I love her so much. Just thinking about seeing her got my excited and then actually seeing her made my heart explode. I love her so much and I miss her more than anything. I was so nice to talk to her face to face without the cell phone breaking up. I saw her lips move, her arm brushed against mine, her leg touched mine. It was all too surreal. It's still a dream.

In two weeks I will be picking her up for good, though. I will be with her forever until the end of time. I am still on cloud nine right now. I can't wait until tomorrow to see her. God is too amazing. It's time for me to get my life back together. Get everything figured out again. This deployment has hurt in more ways than one and I'm ready to put everything behind me. Loud noises still scare me, driving still scares me, and I still have nightmares, but hopefully this will all pass with time. Hopefully life will return to normal. I can't wait.

Things are slowly getting better. Slowly. There's still so much to do.

God is amazingly good. All the time.
Peace
