What WILL make you happy?

Apparently my blog posts aren't up to the standards set by my overseers back home in Oklahoma. First they complained that I didn't post enough when I was there, and now that I post almost everyday, my posts aren't about what my readers expect. So, I ask again, what will make you happy?

Contrary to popular belief, I didn't move to New York City to be a live-in tourist. I moved here knowing that hard work was involved and everything wasn't going to be a walk in the park (literally and figuratively.) As I recall, my overseers back in Oklahoma told me several times, as if I didn't know, that New York wasn't fun and games; yet, they expect more out of my posts than work and subway stories.

Well, father, New York City isn't glitz and glamour all the time. There is work to be done.

So, ha.

That being said, I have ventured out in the city on several occasions and seen the glitz and glamour that New York City has to offer. Last week I went to the DMV to get my driver's license. Jill and JD both told me to take a good book because I would be waiting at least four or five hours. There are a lot of drivers in the city. Jill told me the DMV was between 7th and 8th Aves on 34th St in Manhattan. So I walked 34th (no miracles, though) to 8th Ave and never saw this place. So I crossed the avenue and stood on the corner so I could look up this place on my phone.

As I'm typing, I thought, "It would be hilarious if I was standing in front of this place and didn't know it." Sure enough, I turned around and there it was. And an hour later I walked out with my temp license. I was amazed at how fast it went, but I suppose the Anders' went on bad days.

After that I walked up 7th Ave, through Times Square, through the hordes of people, to Central Park and then over to work to get my paycheck. Quite a walk. I love Times Square and go whenever I can. The lights are pretty and all, but watching people is so much more fun. The tourists taking pictures in the middle of the street almost getting hit by cars. The loud teenagers running around until the police come and they run away. The ticket salesmen that are scalping tickets to Broadway shows, comedy shows, or fake shows that they made tickets for.

I don't know why but people love to take pictures with the police horses. Not the officer on top, just the horse. Weird.

I also find it funny that the doormen outside the fancy apartments and hotels in Manhattan have heat lamps to keep them warm. Everytime I see them, I think of a buffet line with the heat lamps. Makes me laugh.

I also got to see Eliot Spitzer's apartment building on my little walk. The dead give away was the crowd of reporters and cameras surrounding the building. That and the chopper flying overhead.

That was my journey that day. This week, as I'm sure everyone knows, was the St. Patrick's Day Parade that I got to march in. It was totally awesome. I mean, I love parades but marching in one was amazing. All the people watching us march down the street, waving flags, blowing kisses, yelling thank you. It was all pretty amazing. Before the parade, though, we attended Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, which was neat, weird, and crazy boring all in one. Still a fun experience.

Well, my morning commute is coming to a close so I have to wrap this up. Basically what I'm saying is that I work a lot and seem boring, but I get around town also. It's just harder to post about my wanderings because some things you just have to see to believe.

However, father, I will try and do better to make my posts more lively and entertaining.

God is good. All the time.
Peace

P.s. This post brought to on the Manhattan / W 57th St Q train and the Uptown / Bronx 4 train of the infamous MTA New York City Subway.
